After spending most of her early years at the Barnardo's girls home in Essex, at the age of 10 years she was sent to the Fairbridge Farm School at Pinjarra in Western Australia. After High School at Bunbury and working on the land at "Capeldene" near Kirup she joined the AMWAS and was stationed at Hollywood Hospital where she met her husband Bob Halls. They were married in 1946 and have two children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She has been an active member of the Old Fairbridgians Association and of the Kelmscott Westfield Seniors Club in the district where she now lives.
