The Young family in WA originated when Charles Young jumped ship at Albany in 1862, taking employment with the Brockmans at Pemberton where he met Mary Thacker. Mary was the daughter of the first British settler in WA, being the only freed convict from the Amity, arriving in 1826. They settled at Mica Hill near Manjimup. The family have since grown and prospered.
