The author is Robert Nicholson. He was born in 1937. His mother was Bettie (Davies) Nicholson, a granddaughter of Captain Robert Laurie. His father was Perth solicitor Eddie Nicholson. Eddie's father was The Hon John Nicholson a member of the Legislative Council. John had migrated to Western Australia and established a law firm. Bob joined the firm when he commenced his legal professional life in the early 60s. He laments not having inherited any of Captain Laurie's mercantile skills.
